Safari Lodge, Tanzania

The Singita Faru Faru Lodge in Grumeti, northern Tanzania, is part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem. The Singita group of lodges and camps is dedicated to environmentally conscious hospitality, sustainable conservation and empowerment of local communities – its values are closely aligned with our own.

In February 2019, we completed the installation of a solar-battery system to replace the existing diesel generator, with 90% of power to the lodge now sourced from renewables. The system is the first of its kind in Tanzania and the first Tesla battery system commissioned in Tanzania.

Comprising 189 kWp solar PV and 174 kW / 522 kWh battery storage, the system supplies power 24/7 to Faru Faru. Not only is it replacing over 100,000 litres of diesel consumption annually, saving around 270 tonnes of CO2, but also saving tens of thousands of dollars in fuel costs each year for the lodge.
